Choir Club hits the charts !

8 February 2012

This term, enthusiastic members of choir club are choosing what we sing. So far we have had a mix of Black Eyed Peas, Aretha Franklin, Take That and JLS. Not only are the children from Year 1 up to Year 6 learning the songs but they have also been inspired by Glee to add dance moves. Thursday after school club often sees visits from staff coming to find out what we are up to, who knows, what next ?

Year 1 – Caring for earth worms

8 February 2012

As part of Science, Year 1 are looking after worms The have set up a wormery with the help of Miss Smith and Mrs Lammiman and are finding out why earth worms are important. Last week they wrote instructions of how we set it up and this week we are investigating what has happened to our layers of sand and soil. Have they eaten any of the leaves ? Have they stayed at the top of the soil ? Today they are going to find the answers.

Big Book Week

7 February 2012

Continuing with our animal theme, this week was big book week. Mrs Gould brought a selection of big books from her collection and we chose three of them to read. We started with “Dogs In Space” by Nancy Coffelt. It was a very silly book with dogs wearing jet packs and space helmets but we gave it a thumbs up because we enjoyed learning about some of the planets. We followed this with Jill Murphy’s “Whatever Next!” It’s wonderful illustrations really made us believe that the bear had been in a rocket ship!

Our favourite book by far today was “Elmer” by David McKee. With his fabulous colours Elmer stands out amongst all the elephants except on ‘Elmer’s Day’. That’s when Elmer becomes ordinary elephant coloured and everyone else celebrates by decorating themselves in the brightest, most colourful patterns imagineable. Our challenge over the holiday is to create an elephant to bring back to Story Club. Have fun!

Burgh School – fun in the snow !

6 February 2012

10.45am today

Playing in the snow

Staff and children have been making the most of the snow today building snowmen amongst other creatures. Despite the weather causing staff and parents problems this morning we are now enjoying the white covered school field.

A Snowy Welcome to Reception

6 February 2012

We do hope you are wrapped up warm this morning. We are certain to have some fun in the snow today. It’s a great way to practice letter formation! Constructing with snow is something we don’t get to do very often so with gloves, scarves, hats and warm coats, today promises to be a snowy spectacular, super day. Have fun everyone!

“In the meadow we can build a snowman!”

3 February 2012

What a great time everyone had outside at lunchtime today! I had a great time helping Y6 and others making snowmen. However, I must say that fingerless gloves aren’t the greatest item of clothing to wear for such tasks!

Year Four Band!

1 February 2012

You may have noticed Year Four coming out of school on Tuesday with large black cases! We have finally got to take our instruments home. We are learning the trumpet, clarinet, trombone, baritone and saxaphone. Miss Millman and Mrs Sykes are also learning and hoping they can keep up (it’s not looking too good so far – Miss Millman is finding it hard to make any sound with the clarinet, let alone a nice sounding one!) Keep your ears peeled on a Tuesday afternoon to see if we are improving.

Julia Donaldson & Sam Lloyd

31 January 2012

Wow! What a lot of fun we had tonight at Story Club. We’ve now started looking at books that have animals in and tonight’s session featured a video clip of Julia and Malcolm Donaldson performing their “Fox and the Crow” song. The fox is very sneaky and tricks the crow into giving him the cheese. If you’d like to watch the song again visit www.gruffalo.com where you’ll find lots of activities, games, fun and song clips. We also performed our own version of “A Squash And A Squeeze”.

The book that Mrs Gould thought would make us giggle was “Vincent The Vain” by Sam Lloyd. Was she right? Ask a story club member to tell you!
